To Learn Oracle

I have decided that I will learn Oracle in depth. So long "I think this works like this" or "I would just google for xyz syntax or best way to do something" or "I better not touch 'cause it's working fine". It will be a long way I know. Knowledge is a never ending quest, but enough is enough. I have been in the Oracle world for a little over two years now. Much of what I know is basic, note that I have a tendency to discredit myself a lot, I want to be the guy everybody turns to when something happens. I am that guy right now at job, but not for the right reason. I am the only one in my IT Division. Don't get me wrong I have never turned down an user's request because I didn't know what to do. I guess my developer side is pretty good and have, always, helped me a lot.

It just seems logical. I have everything in my favor. My job is not really high demanding I can easily take two hours to study everyday. I own about 15 books on Oracle and PL/SQL Programing. Heck, I even have the study program to certification and never even cut the wrapping plastic. So what the hell is wrong with me ? Or why did it take so long ? Lack of good tutoring and dedication. A tutor, a mentor is everything. Somebody experienced that you can turn to is essential in every area. My tutor has been Google . And dedication ? Well that's just all on me. I have planed to do this earlier a couple times before but I gave up. It was too much. I never though I would be able to detain so much knowledge and information. But now I won't give up this time. I will read, study, and analyze every little piece of info I can get my hands on.

So watch out Tom Kyte pretty soon I will post questions for you at AskTom .

Blogging here I am.

Pretty new to all this blog stuff. I am not much of a reader nor of a writer. So I don't think I can really put a paragraph together that will start, develop and then finish a thought. But hey my english professor says that blogging is good to improve writing .

A lot of stuff came to my mind before I put my first post, the blog is up for almost a year now just so I could say I had a blog like everybody else did. First, what to blog ? I wanted to do something that I could share but at same time would be interesting to people. But what could I do ? I still don't know. I will post whatever I fell like, mostly of the posts will be about Oracle and PL/SQL and all the boring stuff about programming.

Second thing came to mind was whether to post in english or portuguese. I am from Brazil and moved to the US in 99. Since I intend to post mainly about programming I will post mostly in english. One thing I learned is whatever I learned in English I really don't know how to say in Portuguese. For example, I entered the Oracle world after I moved to the US, so most of the stuff I know about Oracle is in english and I can't really think of a way to say it in portuguese. For example, triggers ! In english it makes perfect sense to say that an event triggered the database. How about in portuguese? Um evento engatilhou o banco de dados or Um envento disparou o banco de dados. It just sound funny and like bad portuguese to me. Plus coding in english makes easier to read the code. The keywords are in english and your variables are in english just makes more sense when you are reading the code. But anyways I will throw some portuguese from time to time and hopefully I will learn all the technical lingo in portuguese someday.

In summary that's it ! hopefully I somebody will read my blog ! Please, please, please read me people !!!!!
